Who Told You To Be Small
After a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, artist Beth Knight brings her show Who Told You To Be Small on tour. It’s a story of tackling her demons with painting, comedy, and a jab at the patriarchy.
Beth received her Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In 2023, her paintings have gone on to be included in the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize exhibition and were in the pre-selections for the Royal Society of Portrait Painters competition. After launching her stand-up career in London last year, she’s performed in top comedy clubs, including The Billy Murray, Monkey Barrel, and The Stand. Now she’s blending her paintings and comedy into an hour show about her fight with internalized patriarchy.
“★★★★ … This show is an example of why the Fringe is wonderful (the show is wonderful too). “ —One4Review

“Part storytelling, part comedy - it's all about an artist's journey through making art that is commercial to art that feels real. Beth is also very funny and tells her story well. It is great to see the art and hear the artist's story alongside it. Don't miss this show”

“Thought-provoking and touching show, leaving us with so much curiosity about art and body posivity but also inspired to act and make art too. Lots of laughter and some tears, a lot of new ideas and old ones brought to life with stories and shared experience.”

“Beth Knight takes the audience on a captivating journey through her career as a painter. She does so with candour and without shying away from sharing how her personal experiences shaped her artworks. A show with beautiful—male gaze defying—artworks and a charismatic artist.”

“Such a special piece!
A lighthearted and fun show where the Artists brings you through journey of self-acceptance, using her incredible Art.
The show was really poignant and had good laughs throughout! Lots of the things she said were the things I’d been thinking about the Artworld for so long but never thought to acknowledge. A great marriage of comedy, Art, and feminism.”
